An Honest Review of Veestro Meal Delivery
We ate it all!
An Honest Review of Veestro Meal Delivery by Aley Cristelli
Let’s face it. Eating healthy can be tough. We’ve all been there…powered by our best intentions to eat healthy, then BAM! A late meeting comes up, or the dreaded afternoon lull leaves us fatigued and too uninspired to make it to the grocery store. Meal delivery services have long been capitalizing on our lack of time and effort. We applaud them for it. But, do they really deliver? To narrow down the options, we first wanted to try Veestro and share our review with you all.
Veestro is a 100% plant-based meal delivery option that provides fully-prepared foods directly to your home. These frozen meals are preservative-free, mostly organic (96% to be exact), and come in compostable trays and BPA-free plastic pouches. Sure, all of this sounds great, right? But how does it taste?!
For starters, I was blown away by the flavor. Overall, the meals were extremely tasty! I was sent the Enchilada Casserole, Pasta Bolgonese, Red Curry with Tofu, Country Fried Chick’n, and the Three Layer Scramble. Held to the fire, my favorite meal was the Three-Layer Scramble. It was immensely flavorful and filling…my favorite ‘f’s’ in food reviews.
Another plus to Veestro is its ease and search-ability. To choose your meals, you simply search them by high-protein, gluten-free, low-calorie, nut-free, soy-free, and kosher. Then, just go through and choose what sounds good. I liked that you can choose your options ala carte, as well. The meals are frozen and meant to be reheated in the oven or microwave. If I’m in a rush, I am definitely using the microwave, and did so, exclusively, for this trial. Being said, I did stick the Country Fried Chick’n in the air fryer to crisp it up, post microwave…*chef kiss*
Now let's get down to brass tacks. I enjoyed these meals and the convenience of throwing something (delicious) in the microwave, having dinner ready in a matter of minutes. I do have to say that I was a little turned off by a few things. First off, the company is sustainability-focused, having chosen to use 100% compostable trays and BPA-free plastic pouches. But, when my box arrived, there was a lot of non-compostable trash involved in the process. See thermal and supporting packing. I winced at the thought of all of that packaging going into the landfill. For me, my convenience wasn’t worth it. The meals also tended to be just under 500 calories, with a few being closer to 300. Personally, I would need to add additional calories/food to some of the meals. If I’m already having to prepare a salad, etc., I might as well just make dinner. My single complaint on quality would be that the rice in the curry was mushy and a bit sticky. I mean, it’s hard to complain…it is frozen rice, after all. Outside of that, the food quality was really quite extraordinary.
So, my opinion of the Veestro, 100% Plant-Based meal delivery is a solid ‘pretty dang good’. I was pleased with the food, nutritionally, and loved that the meals were delicious and filling. The prices are a bit…well…pricy, between $10 and $12, but like most things, you get what you paid for. Overall, Veestro’s a tasty safety blanket, especially on those busy weeks and on afternoons where the tank’s on ‘E’. If we could just cut down on the packing trash…
*Meals were provided, free-of-charge, in exchange for an un-biased, real-world review. The above is my absolute experience.*
Enjoy!
